The days have started to get shorter, the evenings darker, the summer holidays are coming to an end, and all you can think about is the non-existent sun and when your next break is.

Sounds pretty much like the perfect time for a holiday, to me, and that’s exactly why I wanted a September getaway – basically to stretch out the summer for as long as I possibly could.

However, September sun is not always guaranteed across Europe and can be a bit hit and miss - apart from in the Canary Islands.

I’ve visited Tenerife, Lanzarote and Gran Canaria before and on every single island the weather has been top notch at pretty much all times of year.

The Salobre Hotel Resort and Serenity was the winner for my September sun soak-up and I did not regret my decision.

The hotel is luxurious, relaxing, beautiful and offers pretty much everything you could possibly want from a holiday resort.

The hotel has seven different pools – one a sunset one with panoramic views, another a vitality pool in the spa, and another a private pool in the hills that you have to make it your mission to find.

There are multiple different restaurants and bars – including a rooftop sunset pool snack bar and a Mediterranean buffet.

@immyshare Ohhhhh I wasn’t sad… I just needed a trip to the Salobre Hotel Resort and Serenity. The Be Aloe Wellness Centre, Salobre’s spa, also offers facial and body therapies in addition to its wellness circuit which includes an 80 degree sauna, an oxygen therapy cabin, self-heating seats and an ice fountain.

Outside there is a vitality pool with therapeutic jets, bubble beds, waterfalls and breathtaking views over the golf course and mountains of Gran Canaria.

And The Salobre Golf Resort has sea and mountain views with 36 holes in two golf courses.

My boyfriend and I went for four nights and five full days and the flight was an easy four hours from London Stanstead.

The hotel is located 42km from the airport, 62km from Las Palmas city centre, 8km from Maspalomas beach and 15km from Playa del Ingles which makes it perfectly convenient.

We stayed in a deluxe suite which overlooked the golf course, had its own living room, panoramic balcony and bathtub overlooking the hills and secret pool.

It really was a taste of luxury and was spacious, clean, modern and perfect for relaxing.

We were on a half board basis so breakfast and dinner were included, both of which we ate in the Sens Kitchen Patio Garden buffet.

Chefs made the food fresh, and it was a lovely outdoor area for some al fresco dining at sunset.

There was plenty of choice, including salads, meats, fish, and each night had a different cuisine theme with inventive options each time.

We definitely ate far too much, but isn’t that what you have to do on holiday?!

The S Club bar is open until midnight, and so after dinner we enjoyed a drink there while playing games and listening to the live music.

We spent our days in the sun lazing on a bed by the swimming pool and to be honest the only real difficulty or hardship we faced was which pool to sit at that day.

We mixed it up and went for the rooftop infinity panoramic pool one day, the spa another, and the private pool on others.

It was lovely to have a change of atmosphere, vibe and scene each day.

Towards the end of one afternoon, my boyfriend persuaded me to go for a round of golf with him – and while I’ve never played golf before, the views and beauty of the course meant it didn’t take much persuading.

The course is absolutely beautiful – it’s well kept, peaceful, scenic and all the holes bring a different take on golf.

I can’t pretend I did much other than drive the buggy, take in the scenery and enjoy the sun on my cheeks but my boyfriend, a golf fanatic, had the time of his life.

Every member of staff, waiter and waitress was kind, helpful and friendly at the hotel, and we really didn’t want to leave.

It does as it says on the lid, offers serenity and relaxation when you most need it.

The hotel also offers a free shuttle bus everyday to the nearby town of Maspalomas, so if you fancy a change of scenery and a little wander, there’s the perfect opportunity.

If you’re looking for somewhere to escape this winter, or next year in any season, I’d highly recommend a visit to the Gran Canaria hills at the Salobre Hotel Resort and Serenity – but, be warned, you might never want to come home.
