A Tesco shopper in Penge has been left “shocked” after he found an extra filling in his cheese sandwich – a daddy longlegs.
Tim Lane purchased a ploughman’s sandwich as part of a meal deal from a Tesco Express on Penge High Street on Tuesday (October 2).
“I don't like tomatoes, so when I opened the sandwich to removed it, I was shocked to discover that there was an extra filling - a daddy longlegs”.
Daddy longlegs, also known as a Crane Fly, often hang out around water sources, and tend to like dark, damp places.
A spokesperson for Tesco said despite the companies “robust processes”, insects can sometimes “sneak through suppliers’ checks”
A spokesperson for Tesco said: “We're sorry to hear about this.
“We have robust processes in places but on very rare occasions insects can sometimes sneak through our suppliers’ checks.
“In a situation like this, the customer can return the item to one of our stores for a full refund.”
Tim said he contacted customer service after he found the creepy crawly inside his sandwich, who then offered a refund for the price of the meal deal, and a £5 gesture.
“I thought their response was lacking”, Tim added.
