A Lewisham nursery where children “separate from their parents with ease” and have “secure and trusting relationships with staff” has been rated as good by Ofsted.

The Old Station Nursery, based in Tressillian Road, was last inspected on August 7, 2024.

The report was then published on September 12, 2024.

It was rated as good in all areas: Quality of education, behaviour and attitudes, personal development and leadership and management.

This is a positive step up from its previous rating as requires improvement when the nursery was last inspected back in September 2023.

In the report, inspectors recognised the hard work that has been done to improve the quality of learning and interactions between staff and children.

The curriculum has been revised, introducing activities such as cooking and planting to help children build “essential skills for future education and life”.

Children showed inspectors that they are “motivated to explore and learn” and all children, including any identified to need extra support, were found to make “good progress”.

Staff were reported to work “extremely well” with parents to meet children’s needs.

When children get to nursery, they “separate from their parents with ease” and are “eager and ready to play and learn”.

Inspectors found that “secure and trusting relationships” are built between staff and children, creating a “calm and nurturing environment” where children show that they are “happy and content”.

High expectations are set for behaviour, Ofsted reported, and children “excitedly” make independent choices.

To improve even further, Ofsted recommends that the “oversight of teaching and learning” across the nursery could be worked on to make sure staff are confident when they deliver learning and activities.

Ofsted also suggested that the nursery enhance staff’s understanding of how to help older children “self-regulate and manage minor disagreements”.

Nursery Manager Ria Chandler is delighted with the report's outcome, she said: “I am so proud of the whole Tressillian Road team for achieving this fabulous result.

“Being rated a ‘Good’ nursery recognises the team’s continual hard work and commitment to providing exceptional childcare.

“Our nursery offers a beautiful home-from-home environment, and we strive always to achieve the best outcomes for the children in our care.

“When entering our nursery, you will be greeted by compassionate professionals who have your children at the centre of everything we do.

“We are all a family here at Tressillian Road and welcome visitors to see what we do first-hand.”
