A man has been left with life changing injuries after a stabbing in central London.

The incident happened in Castle Baynard Street shorty after 5am today (September 18).

Officers and London Ambulance were called to the scene and found a man injured.

He was taken to hospital where his injuries were assessed as not life threatening but life changing.

A 32-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder.

He was taken into police custody where he remains.

City of London Police are not looking for anyone else in relation to the incident.

A small section of the cycle highway on Castle Bayard Street is closed and a diversion is in place.

A spokesperson for City of London Police said: "A man aged 32 has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder following a serious assault on Castle Baynard Street.

“Officers were called shortly after 5am today (18 September).

“The man was apprehended by police officers close to the scene and has been brought into custody.

"London Ambulance Service also attended, and a man has been taken to hospital with injuries that are consistent with being stabbed.

“His injuries are believed to be life changing but not life threatening.

"City of London Police are not looking for anyone else in relation to the incident.

“A small section of the cycle highway on Castle Bayard Street is closed and a diversion is in place.
