Firefighters are to remain at the scene of a factory fire in Belvedere overnight as it heads into its third day of being alight.

The fire broke out at a commercial property on Mulberry Way yesterday (September 16) at around 10am, with crews from London Fire Brigade and London Ambulance Service dispatched to the scene.

The fire involved part of a corkscrew conveyor belt at the processing facility.

London Fire Brigade have said that “the location of the corkscrew is difficult to access, limiting the response of crews”.

There have been no injuries reported so far.

The brigade has confirmed that crews will remain in the area today and into tomorrow to bring the fire under control.

A 500m cordon has been put in place with part of the A2016 closed which will impact local businesses.

Several road closures are in place with multiple bus routes on diversion.

The cause of this fire is not yet known.

A spokesperson for London Fire Brigade said: “Firefighters are responding to an incident at an industrial site on Church Manorway, Erith.

“The incident involves a corkscrew conveyor belt which was alight, and crews are now working to reduce it to the building’s ambient temperature.

“The location of the corkscrew is difficult to access, limiting the response of crews. As a result this is a protracted incident, and firefighting operations will extend into tomorrow (18 September).

“A 500m safety cordon has been put in place as the Brigade responds. A section of the A2016 is closed to traffic, and a number of nearby businesses on the industrial site have had to close.

“The Brigade was first called at 0950 on 16 September about the fire.

“Crews from Erith, Plumstead, Greenwich and surrounding fire stations are responding to this incident.”
