Deptford High Street is set to be turned into a car-free space, with a family fun event hosting games, music and crafts this weekend.

To mark World Car Free Day, an annual event which aims to encourage drivers to give up their cars for the day, Deptford High Street, a normally busy road connecting Lewisham with Greenwich, will be turned into a car-free space with a host of events on Saturday (September 21).

Deputy Mayor Louise Krupski, Cabinet Member for Environment, Transport and Climate Action, said: “Following the success in previous years, we are thrilled to be hosting our World Car Free Day event again at Deptford High Street and supporting Play Streets taking place across the borough. I’m looking forward to seeing lots of people re-imagining and enjoying the spaces outside their front doors.

This annual, global event is our way of celebrating the hard work we are already doing to make our borough greener, safer, and healthier, as well as shining a light on what could be possible.

Decarbonising our transport is an integral step in working towards this goal to tackle the climate crisis.”
