A man has been taken to hospital after being struck on the head with a bottle in Greenwich.

Police were called in the early hours of this morning (Monday) to the assault in General Gordon Square at around 2.14am.

Ambulance crews also attended and found a man in his 40s who had been struck on the head with a bottle.

He was taken to hospital, where the severity of his injuries are being assessed.

The crime scene has since been cleared, and investigations are ongoing.

At this time, no arrests have been made. 

Police are urging anyone with information to contact them on 101, quoting reference CAD544/16SEP, or to provide details anonymously through Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

A London Ambulance Service spokesperson said: “We were called at 2.18am this morning (Monday 16 September) to reports of an incident in Plumstead Road, SE18.

“We sent an ambulance crew to the scene.

“Our crew assessed a man at the scene, before he was taken to hospital by a third party.”

A spokesperson for Metropolitan Police said: “Police were called at 2:14hrs on Monday, 16 September to reports of a man being assaulted on General Gordon Sq, Greenwich.

“Officers and paramedics from LAS attended and found a man in his 40’s had been struck in the head with a bottle.

“The man has been taken to hospital where the severity of his injuries are being assessed.

“The crime scene has now been closed. The investigation is ongoing.

“No one has been arrested at this time.
