Beckenham is a popular neighbourhood which can be found in Bromley.

Up into 1965, the area was part of Kent but is now considered to be in London.

It has eight parks and six train stations, making it an ideal home for people who need to commute into London but also want some greenery and peace.

The six train stations in the neighbourhood include Beckenham Junction, Beckenham Hill, New Beckenham, Kent House, Clock House and Ravensbourne, making the area highly accessible to live.

According to TripAdvisor, the top spot in Beckenham is Kelsey Park.

The park opened over 100 years ago, back in 1913, and the land was once owned by the Lord of the Manor of Beckenham.

One reviewer on TripAdvisor said: “What a beautiful park in such a lovely south London Town.

“I appreciate the amount of wildlife in this park and how much people enjoy it. It’s lovely.”

Another said: “I’ve started coming here a lot over the past three years.

“It’s a great and lively park.

“I often sit on the benches and read or draw or I just have a wander around - it’s a great park for a walk.”

Another popular feature of the area is Bethlem Museum of the Mind.

The museum celebrates the lives, experiences and achievements of people with mental health problems”.

It aims to make collections accessible and provide accurate information to those who visit.

Until November 30, 2024, the museum is showing an exhibition called “A World Apart: The work of Charles Lutyens”.

Lutyens died in 2021 and was both an artist and therapist.

He went to a series of institutions to help and treat people there and he is best known as the creator of the UK’s largest single-artist mosaic which can be found in St Paul’s Church, Bow Common.

“It only opened in 2015, and it benefits from audio visual displays, which bring patient experiences alive.

“The Museum challenges our understanding of mental health and how it is treated.

“It has very friendly staff and it's free.”

Another one of the green spaces that is loved by Beckenham residents is Croydon Road Recreation Ground.

It is packed with facilities such as the Bowie Bandstand, a café, a children’s play area, tennis courts and a paddling pool.

A TripAdvisor reviewer highly recommends bringing kids here and said: “What a beautiful little park in the middle of such an amazing town.

“I really recommend this as an attraction for all ages. It is truly beautiful.”

Langley Park Golf Club is also listed on TripAdvisor as a top spot for visitors, with one Beckenham resident saying they had “a very pleasant afternoon spent in wonderful surroundings.

“The service was outstanding and the afternoon tea a lovely experience.”

Cator Park is an additional green space in Beckenham that people love to go when they want some peace, quiet and fresh air.

One visitor said: “When I visit my daughter I always go for a walk around Cator Park, it is extremely children friendly and has a play area.

“There is a lot of parakeets and when the trees are bare of leaves you will see then everywhere.

“If you wanted to there a walk you can follow but I haven't tried it yet maybe next time.”

For cricket lovers, The County Ground is not to be missed, offering sports facilities as well as function rooms in its pavilion to be made use of.

Reviewers of TripAdvisor praised the grounds for its food and drink options, ample seating and being a “lovely green space”.
