A ex-Welling United footballer, a paedophile pastor, and a Bexley and Bromley car thief are among the criminals jailed in September so far.

Here are the names and faces of the men who are have been sentenced to prison time this month.

Thomas Siggers

Thomas SiggersThomas Siggers (Image: Met Police) Thomas Siggers, 30, from Sidcup, stole luxury vehicles from driveways across Bexley, Bromley and Greenwich.

Despite wearing an ankle tag which tracked his movements 24 hours a day, between October and January the career criminal stole at least eight cars using sophisticated keyless entry tech.

One woman who watched her £40,000 Land Rover being taken from her driveway in Bexley described feeling “emotionally violated” by the theft.

When the car was found six days later it was trashed and her 93-year-old mum’s wheelchair was gone.

Another car Siggers stole was later used in a shooting in Woolwich.

Siggers was one of four men accused of partaking in the attempted execution of a man outside his own home, but a jury found him not guilty of attempted murder after he said he was not aware of the gun and thought it was a plan to steal rather than kill.

Siggers was also involved in an incident which saw an off-duty police officer threatened with a machete.

When the law eventually caught up with him he pleaded guilty to conspiracy to steal motor vehicles, vehicle interference, affray and theft from a motor vehicle.

Siggers was jailed for four years and 10 months.

Kiernan Hughes-Mason

Former Welling United footballer Kiernan Hughes-Mason carried out a violent attack on a two-year-old girl which left her with life-changing brain injuries.

The 32-year-old injured the child so badly that the victim's mother was told she would either die in the night or be severely disabled for life.

On New Year’s Eve 2020, Hughes-Mason phoned for an ambulance claiming he found the girl conscious but unresponsive.

The girl was placed in an induced coma as doctors identified 17 different injuries. She remained in the coma for 14 days.

The girl, who is now seven, still has a “personality that shines through” and “creates joy” but now has no independence, being only able to say three or four words at a time, and requiring “expensive accommodations” due to her physical and mental disabilities.

Hughes-Mason played for Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur during his youth career before playing for a variety of clubs including Millwall, Hashtag United, Leatherhead, Welling, and Grays and Barking.

He has been jailed for 14 years for grievous bodily harm with intent and child cruelty.

Aniekan Akpan

Pastor Aniekan AkpanPastor Aniekan Akpan (Image: Met Police) Aniekan Akpan, a pastor at the Christ Paradise Church near Old Kent Road, was described as a well-respected member of the community.

But the 47-year-old has been found guilty of 12 offences related to the sexual abuse of a girl beginning when she was 10-years-old.

Judge Ian Darling said Akpan subjected the victim to “all manner of touchings”.

“Tragically, she describes in her evidence that she got so used to it going on that she didn’t tell anyone. One of the reasons she said she didn’t tell anyone was that she didn’t think they would believe her,” Judge Darling said.

“She was only 10-years-old and could not have begun to understand what was going on.”

Akpan, of St James in Croydon, was jailed for 15 years.

Jack Wesley

Jack WesleyJack Wesley (Image: NQ) Jack Wesley, 35, who recently moved to Bertelli Place in Feltham from Catford, has been jailed for breaching a court order.

In 2012 he was jailed for a-year-and-a-half after he groomed a 14-year-old schoolboy in Essex, took him to the park and performed sexual acts on him.

Then in 2016 he was jailed for seven years after he moved to the West Midlands and began pimping out boys aged between 13 and 15 to adult men.

In June this year Wesley narrowly avoided prison after he breached a court order by befriending a 14-year-old boy he met through a local good bank, and discussing the boy’s sexuality with him.

The offending came to light when another of the boy’s relatives walked in and saw him on a video call with Wesley, who immediately disconnected the call.

She contacted the police who informed her that Wesley was a convicted sex offender.

But a judge decided not to jail him as a prison sentence would be unfair on his seriously ill mum, who Wesley acts as a carer for.

Wesley didn’t stay out of trouble and on Thursday (September 5) Wesley appeared at Bexley Magistrates’ Court where he pleaded guilty to two offences of breaching sex offenders register notification requirements relating to the creation of a new bank account.

He had previously pleaded not guilty to these charges but on the day of his trial he changed his pleas.

Further charges relating to Wesley having unsupervised contact with somebody under 16 and failing to notify police about his change of address were dropped.

Wesley, who previously went by the names Robert Bailey and Shaun Williams, was jailed for 10 weeks.
