East Dulwich has been named as one of the best places to live in the UK in 2024.
Blogger Muddy Stilettos has named the area as “cool”, but not in a “graffiti-scrawled, underground clubs and street food way” instead in a “farmers markets, art galleries and notable restaurants” way.
Stand out features of the area outlined by the blogger were Lordship Lane, street art, attractive housing and Goose Green Park.
One of the restaurants that Muddy Stilettos named as a favourite for locals was Oru – a co-working spot, yoga studio and a Sri Lankan-inspired café.
Kartuli’s was also given a shoutout as a “gorgeous Georgian restaurant in a historic building” based in Lordship Lane.
Other restaurants listed as top eateries in the neighbourhood were Yama Momo, Yard Salem Franklins and The Palmerston.
But it’s not just the food that made Muddy Stilettos highlight East Dulwich, it is also the shopping.
Forest London was mentioned as “an urban oasis of plants and homewares”.
Rye Books and Arapina Bakery were recommended as place for baked goods and coffee.
There are plenty of attractions in the area that contributed to Muddy Stilettos naming East Dulwich as such a great place to live.
For example, Brockwell Lido is described as an “Art Deco, Grade II-listed open air pool with a café that’s a 12 minute bus ride from Goose Green”.
There is also the beloved Horniman Museum in Forest Hill which is just next door to East Dulwich.
Anyone in search of culture can enjoy Dulwich Picture Gallery, Picture House cinema and the Dulwich Festival in May which celebrates the areas artists with open house events, talks and music.
The average house price in East Dulwich, according to Muddy Stilettos, is £786,042 with flats going for around £478,550.
Terraced properties sell for around £1,013,516 and semi detached houses detch £1,363,200.
Where schooling is concerned, nurseries that Muddy Stilettos recommends include Butterfly Lane East Dulwich Nursery, Little Fingers Montessori Nursery and Mother Goose.
For older children, the blogger suggests Harris Primary School East Dulwich, Dog Kennel Hill Primary School and Goose Green Primary School.
Alternatively, independent schools listed in the blog are Dulwich College, James Allen’s Girls’ School and Alleyn’s School.
The blog named the area’s “best kept secret” as Dulwich Outdoor Gallery.
She said: “It’s a bougie bit of London, but East Dulwich actually has some edgy street art.”
While East Dulwich cannot be found on the tube map, it has a station that can get you to London Bridge in 15 minutes.
Nearby, commuters can find Peckham Rye which connects them to Victoria, Dalston and Clapham Junction.
