The southbound Blackwall Tunnel is set to close throughout the upcoming weekend, from the early hours of Saturday, September 7, to Monday morning, September 9.
With closures commencing at 12.01am on Saturday and reassuming normal operation at 5am on Monday, the closure will affect motorists in east and central London significantly.
During this period, the northbound tunnel remains open, but diversions may be implemented on the approach routes.
Although scheduled maintenance of the tunnel will continue, running from 11.59 on Saturdays to 7am on Sundays, there could be future closures where necessary.
Transport for London (TfL) plans to keep the public updated on the issue.
Motorists are advised to anticipate heavy delays over the weekend, notably on the A13 westbound between Canning Town and Whitechapel, as well as the approaches to the Rotherhithe Tunnel.
Tube and rail should be considered as alternative modes of transport by those journeying through Central London.
TfL encourages the public to utilise the Journey Planner and TfL Go app for efficient route planning and for information on planned works.
Those who need to drive are advised to plan ahead, checking their routes and allowing more time for journeys.
For heavy goods vehicles and other large vehicles, usual size and weight restrictions on alternative London river crossings would be in place.
Congestions charges will still be applied during this period.
For ferry users, the standard timetable for the Woolwich Ferry will still be operational, although it might not be possible to board the first service due to possible long queues.
Bus service disruptions will also occur, the 108 Bus will operate a split service running from Stratford International to Canning Town, and North Greenwich to Lewisham, starting at 10pm on Fridays until just before midnight on Sundays.
From midnight on Sundays, northbound buses will resume their normal routes while southbound ones will be diverted via Tower Bridge until regular services are restored at 5am on Monday.
