From Saturday, August 31, bus services are set for improvements, with increased frequencies announced for two bus routes in the Bromley, Croydon and Greenwich areas.

Route 289, operating between Elmers End Interchange and Purley Station, is set to benefit with buses operating more frequently.

There will be a jump from 20-minute intervals between buses to 15 minutes during Sunday daytime and a reduction in the early morning on Sunday from every 30 minutes to 20 minutes.

This adjustment will better assist users, particularly those needing transport for medical appointments or work as the route serves Croydon University Hospital.

In addition, Route 314, running between Eltham Bus Station and New Addington, will also see an improvement in frequency with buses set to operate every 20 minutes instead of every 30 minutes on Sunday, and during early mornings on Saturday and Sunday.

Geoff Hobbs, TfL’s director of public transport service planning, said: "We aim to always offer affordable and sustainable public transport options where possible.

"Working with Bromley, Croydon and Greenwich councils, we constantly monitor and review our bus network to ensure our bus services reflect current customer demands."

He added: "We’ve increased the frequencies of bus routes to accommodate local communities "We will continue our work to improve public transport for people in the local area and beyond."

These changes are part of TfL's strategy to adapt the bus network to fulfil customer needs. The flexible design allows for quick frequency adjustments and route changes as needed.

TfL encourages its customers to stay informed on these changes, either through TfL's communication channels or by using the planning tools on TfL’s website or the TfL Go app.

The changes will take effect from tomorrow (August 31), and further improvements are not to be ruled out as TfL continually monitors and reviews the features of the bus network to ensure it is meeting customer demand.

Passengers are advised to be aware of updates to guarantee uninterrupted commutes.

TfL's effort to revamp the public transportation system extends beyond south east London.

The organisation has announced plans for an increase in bus frequency for affordable and sustainable public transport options where possible.
