A popular Wetherspoons pub in a building dating back to the 1800s in Catford has closed its doors after being put up for sale earlier this year.
The London & Rye in Rushey Green in Catford was situated within a 19th-century building, which was believed to have been built to accommodate rich merchants moving to London whilst villas were being built in Catford.
It first opened as a Wetherspoons pub in May 2000 and closed its doors this weekend, marking the end of 24 years in business.
It earned its name from the old London to Rye road that used to run along the site and the building stretches over two floors with outdoor covered seating.
It was formerly one of around 800 pubs across the UK owned by the company, and is among 61 Wetherspoons pubs in the UK to close this year.
The pub was put up for sale by letting agent Savills earlier this year with offers starting from £850,000.
Wetherspoons confirmed to News Shopper that the pub closed its doors yesterday (August 25), with Sunday marking its last day in business.
