A man attempted to steal a car in Welling yesterday evening and, during his escape, reportedly threw an unknown substance at two people.
The incident occurred on Bellegrove Road in Welling, just before 7pm on August 22.
As the man fled the scene after police were called, he allegedly targeted a man and a woman by throwing the substance at them.
Both victims were taken to the hospital.
The substance is being examined and believed to not be acid.
Following a search, the police arrested a man on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm and burglary.
The investigation into the incident is ongoing, according to police.
London Fire Brigade and London Ambulance Service were also called to the scene.

A spokesperson for Metropolitan Police said: “At around 18:43hrs police were called to Bellegrove Road in Welling after reports of a man trying to steal a car.
“As he fled he is reported to have thrown a substance at a man and woman.
“LAS and LFB attended as a precaution.
“The man and woman were taken to hospital. While testing continues it is not believed to be acid.
“Officers searched the area and arrested a man on suspicion of GBH and burglary.
“Enquiries are ongoing.”
