A central London restaurant within Selfridges department store, dubbed as one of the "most beautiful in the UK" by OpenTable, is currently doing a summer-themed menu – and it’s under £30.

If you go to the second floor of Selfridges department store in busy Oxford Street, you’ll find the Brasserie of Light.

With opulent gold touches and a crystal-encrusted statue of a horse by Damien Hirst, it’s no wonder why this restaurant was named by OpenTable as one of the UK’s “most beautiful” restaurants.

The restaurant is indeed visually pleasing, with viewing windows of Oxford Street and tableware inspired by the different mythical animals that are suspended above your head.

I recently visited with my friend to try out the new Splash into Summer menu, where you can get two courses for £29.95 or three courses for £35.95, along with a menu of summer-themed cocktails too.

To begin with we tried some of the cocktails, which were the Poolside Splash, a frozen cocktail made up of casamigos tequila and coconut puree, as well as the Gold Medal, which was made with vodka, briottet mandarin, mandarin juice, monin kiwi, lemon juice and yuzu juice, and ended up being my favourite of all the ones I tried with its citrus flavours.

The food menu offers a small selection of dishes focusing on seasonal flavours and produce, with options like Popcorn Shrimp and Sole Goujons, with additional options like steak for an extra supplement.

To begin with we both got the Bang Bang Chicken Salad, with crunchy salad, sesame, peanut butter and chilli sauce, and it delivered on the crunch with a nice mix of Asian flavours from the sesame and chilli sauce.

For mains we tried the vegetarian option, which was the Harissa and Pomegranate Aubergine, which came with red tapenade, wild rice, coconut yogurt, lime, harissa and pistachio and edamame beans.

This dish definitely had a lot of tastes and textures, and whilst it was personally not my favourite out of all three dishes, it definitely had plenty of flavour.

Finally, for desserts we went in different directions, ordering the Coconut and Rum Panna Cotta and the Chocolate Bubbles dessert.

The Panna Cotta really hit on those summer flavours and was a slightly different take on this classic Italian dessert, with flavours of pineapple, lime, mango and lemon balm.

Whereas the Chocolate Bubbles was a more rich dessert made with dark chocolate, dark chocolate mousse, chocolate brownie pieces, vanilla ice cream and chocolate pearls.

If you’ve been wanting a chance to eat at the Brasserie of Light, this menu offers some really affordable dining options that cater to different dietary requirements for just under £30.

The Splash into Summer menu will be running up until the beginning of September at the Brasserie of Light in Selfridges.
