An elderly man whose Jack Russell was mauled to death in Charlton by what is thought to be an XL Bully has not left the house since the attack.
John Lawrence Kane, 83, known locally as Jack, was walking his six-year-old Jack Russell, Daisy, on Saturday, July 13, at the Cherry Orchard Estate near a local school.
They encountered two people walking two "XL Bully" type dogs when one of the dogs broke free and attacked Daisy, killing her and leaving John with a severe hand injury.
Jack had to carry Daisy home dead in his arms.
Since, Jack has been left "emotionally drained" and "traumatised".
John's son, Sean Kane, told the News Shopper: “My dad is so traumatised by the whole situation, that he hasn’t been outside since.
“I haven’t seen my dad look and be so emotionally drained like this ever.
“The residents of the estate do not walk or want to walk their dogs in and around the area.
“Various people over the last few weeks have said that the dog can't be controlled even on the lead."
Following the attack, the family contacted the emergency services, but no ambulance was available, so officers took John to Saint Thomas’ hospital.
John hand is recovering but did become infected following the attack.
A woman, believed to be the owner of the dogs, turned herself into the police on July 16.
The dog has since been seized by officers but there have been no further updates with the case, according to the Met Police as of August 21.
Sean explained that the XL Bully was reportedly seen being walked in the area without a muzzle until July 30.
He said: “Many people on the estate are no longer taking their dogs for a walk, as they are scared for their and their dogs safety.”
Sean added: "Daisy was a lovely family dog, very good-natured, and wouldn't hurt anyone.
"She had a unique way of asking for treats by sitting on her backside with her paws up.
