The Rocky Horror Show takes a classic rock and roll story to a new level – with the audience shivering in anticipation to get involved.
The Rocky Horror Show is a timeless classic combining rock and roll, raunchy dancing and a smattering of science fiction all in one big melting pot.
The story, with music written by Richard O'Brien, follows newly engaged couple Janet (Lauren Chia) and Brad (Connor Carson) as they stumble across a creepy castle and meet Dr Frank-N-Furter and his cohort of misfit assistants, who are seeking to create a new person, muscles and all.
The show is currently playing at Bromley’s Churchill Theatre on its UK-wide tour, featuring Jason Donovan as Frank-N-Furter and directed by Christopher Luscombe.
This lively adaptation of the original 1970s movie features much of the original humour and music with songs like The Time Warp and Sweet Transvestite.
Naturally with so many catchy songs, audience members are encouraged to take part in the dancing and will probably find themselves with the songs stuck in their heads after the performance.
The performance also has a lot of humour delivered by audience interaction; this show actively encourages audience members to shout things out to the actors, which often leads to some side-splitting responses.
The set itself has a lot of fun details, from the opulent castle interiors to the bed of Frank-N-Furter, which both Janet and Brad find themselves in.
Nathan Caton gave a hilarious performance as the Narrator with his deep voice and London tones, he really juxtaposed against the other performers and commanded the stage whenever he appeared.
His humour was also incredible and his ability to improvise with the audience interactions made us feel like we were watching his very own comedy gig.
Job Greuter’s performance as Riff Raff was fun to watch, and with his rich Transylvanian accent and performance of The Time Warp he really brought the party to the audience very early on in the show.
If you’re a fan of the Rocky Horror Show or just want a fun night out, this performance delivered on all the fun and frivolity of the original movie.
If anything, I wanted to do The Time Warp and go back and watch it all again.
The Rocky Horror Show is currently playing at the Churchill Theatre in Bromley up until August 24, with tickets starting from £22.
