- Just before midday, the brigade took the first of over 30 calls reporting a fire at Somerset House.
- Twenty fire engines and around 120 firefighters have been working since then to bring the fire under control and to protect this historic landmark.
- The fire was located in part of the building’s roof space. The age and design of the building proved a challenge for crews as they initially responded.
- Crews will remain on scene into tomorrow carrying out further operations.
- The cause of the fire is now under investigation by the brigade’s specialist fire investigators.
