A secondary school in Blackheath has celebrated a major win, with more than half of all grades awarded A* - A in this year's A-level results.
Blackheath High School, an independent girls school teaching 750 students, announced a major achievement with 53 per cent of grades received A* - A.
A total of 83 per cent of grades received were A* - B , while 37 per cent of grades received straight A* and A this year. This was double the number of students achieving straight As and A*s than last year.
Blackheath High School’s headteacher Natalie Argile said these results were a “testament” to the hard work of staff and students, and extended her pride and well wishes to their now alumni students.
She added: "These results are absolutely wonderful, and testament to the hard work and dedication of our students, as well as our incredible teaching staff and the wider community of all those who support our girls.
“Behind every single one of these grades is an individual story of hard work, determination and resilience. We couldn’t be prouder of these fiercely intelligent, passionate, committed young people who leave us to inspire and lead in their chosen fields.”
Students have secured places in a range of subjects ranging from fashion to biology at prestigious universities such as The University of Oxford, University College London and Durham University to name a few.
Four students are also set to begin their studies in medical degrees, with three aspiring for a profession as a doctor and another in veterinary care.
Among students celebrating was Lovera, who received straight A grades in Biology, Chemistry and Maths, as well as an A in her EPQ entitled “An exploration of the effect of racism and underrepresentation on the medical hesitancy and overall health of African Americans.”
Following her success, Lovera will be continuing her studies in medicine at the University of Exeter this Autumn.
Student Grace, who secured A - A* grades in Drama, Religious Studies and Politics, is set to pursue a career in acting after securing a place at Royal Holloway, University of London.
Student Amy also celebrated a huge win with an A* in Biology and A grades in Chemistry and French, and will be taking up studies in Biology at the University of Oxford.
Amy said: “It’s a bittersweet feeling to be leaving Blackheath High – I am going with so many good memories and experiences. I have made lifelong friendships and also built amazing relationships with the teachers.”
