One of Bromley’s libraries is set to be reopened next week with a celebration event following a recent refurbishment.
Southborough Library will reopen on Friday (August 16) following a recent refurbishment and is the second library after St Paul’s Cray Library in the borough to receive a revamp.
The library received upgrades to improve accessibility and sustainability, with a new accessible public toilet and baby changing facilities, along with improved lighting, new windows and a new heating system.
The reopening will be marked with a celebratory event, with Mayor of Bromley Cllr David Jeffreys cutting the ribbon, before guests will have a chance to explore the library.
The event will also feature refreshments, along with children’s crafts, outdoor games and a display of winner's trophies from Bromley Football Club, who recently celebrated their promotion to the English Football League.
The event will also be joined by children’s author Mo O’Hara, author of Honey’s Hive, who will host a storytelling session based on her book.
Over £11 million has been allocated to improve and modernise libraries in Bromley, through repairs and replacement works to existing fixtures.
These funds are in addition to the “major” regeneration of West Wickham Library, which is currently underway, as well as plans to relocate Bromley’s Central Library, which is currently located next to the Churchill Theatre.
Councillor Yvonne Bear, Executive Councillor for Renewal, Recreation and Housing, said: “Our library service is going from strength to strength and the reopening of Southborough Library is another step towards our vision of high quality library facilities across the borough being secured for the future.
“We know what an important role libraries play in the borough offering services and facilities that benefit the whole community.
“There’s something for everyone at our libraries and these improvement works will make them even more accessible and enjoyable places to visit."
