I rode in a car driven by a professional chauffeur through London, and I never want to travel any other way again.
I was given the chance to try out the Wheely app, a chauffeur service available in London, Paris and Dubai where you can be driven in premium, unmarked vehicles to get you where you need to go.
As someone who uses Uber as a special treat as opposed to getting the tube, I was very excited to try out this luxurious travel option.
I was lucky enough to take a New First Class journey, something usually only available to members, which took me from my flat into central London for the evening.
As I was heading to an engagement party and knew I would be dressed up and wearing heels, I thought it was the perfect occasion to arrive in style.
It was very simple to order, the day before I put my address into the app and the address of the party as well as the time I wanted to travel – within five minutes the journey was accepted.
While I was getting ready, the app sent me regular updates about where my chauffeur was and he arrived around ten minutes early, putting my mind at rest that I would not be late.
When I stepped outside of my building, my driver was stood waiting for me right next to the jaw-dropping Mercedes-Benz S-Class.
I felt like a princess as he held the door open for me so that I could settle down inside the cushy car.
I am not exaggerating when I say I have never been so comfortable in a car before in my life.
The headrests had an extra cushion over them to maximise comfort, so I leaned back and enjoyed the views of central London as we cruised through the city.
An added touch that I thought made the experience all the more luxurious was that both my boyfriend and I had small bottles of Fiji water in the cup holders which we could sip on our way – something massively appreciated amidst the heatwave we have seen this year.
The temperature in the car was perfectly cool when we got in, but the driver politely asked if we would like the temperature to be changed to ensure that we were as cosy as possible.
He also asked if we would like him to turn the radio on or play our own music.
When I said the radio would be nice, he went on to ask which station we would prefer, and we opted for some relaxing Classic FM for the journey.
I was highly impressed by how customisable the experience is, when you are in an Uber or a taxi you never even think about being able to change the temperature or the music.
When we arrived in central London, I honestly didn’t want the experience to end.
After we got out of the car, the driver even continued to ask if there was anything else we needed before he departed, and we asked him to kindly take a photo of us.
While this is a more expensive option than your regular black cab, it is a truly special and luxurious experience.
Wheely does not just offer one off journeys, members can also arrange a chauffeur for an entire day and their own concierge.
But non-members can still enjoy the perks Wheely offers with other types of journey and airport pickups which can be searched on both the app and the website.
