A man has been arrested after Southeastern trains were blocked due to a trespasser.

Police were called to the line near Barnehurst station shortly before 4pm today (Wednesday, August 7) to reports of a trespasser on the tracks.

A man in his 30s was arrested on suspicion of trespass and theft.

While the incident was dealt with, trains were cancelled or delayed between Bexleyheath and Barnehurst.

Trains between London Victoria and Gravesend, and between London Charing Cross and Dartford were impacted as well as trains between London Cannon Street and Slade Green / Gravesend / Strood.

At the time of the incident, power to the lines was switched off and staff were on site.

A British Transport Police spokesperson said: “Officers were called to the line near Barnehurst railway station at around 3.49pm today (7 August) following reports of a trespasser on the tracks.

“Officers attended and a man in his 30s was arrested on suspicion of trespass and theft.”

A spokesperson for Southeastern said: "Services through Barnehurst were suspended for around 30 minutes while the police responded to a trespasser on the railway.

"The line is now open and trains are running again. 

"Anyone delayed by more than 15 minutes should claim Delay Repay compensation on our website."
