Orpington Liberal Club has been crowned as the best social club in London by the CAMRA 2024 Awards.
The club was recognised for being a “small, friendly club” which has been in CAMRA’s good beer guide since 2013.
It is run only by volunteers and its supply of beer changes regularly,
Most of the time, it supplies three or four types of beer and a selection of ciders as well.
The club is dog-friendly, provided pets are on leads, and stages many events such as folk music, jazz music, rock music and more.
It is home of Orpington Bridge Club and regularly hosts tabletop gaming events.
A spokesperson for Orpington Liberal Club said: “We're delighted to announce that Orpington Liberal Club is CAMRA London Region’s Club of the Year.
“Congratulations to all our volunteer staff and especially to Peter Muldoon and Phil Wheeler for ordering fantastic cask ales from small brewers and chiller room management.”
This is the pub’s twelfth consecutive year being named the best club in Bromley and it has also won CAMRA’s national club of the year in 2014, 2016 and 2019.
Orpington Liberal Club was also named the best club in London in 2013, 2015, 2017, 2018 and 2019.
A CAMRA spokesperson said: “This small friendly club, which has been in the Good Beer Guide every year since 2013, is run entirely by volunteers.
“It serves a regularly-changing selection of beers, mostly from small breweries, the large quantity of pump clips adorning the walls shows the large quantity of beers served over the past few years.
“Usually three or four beers are available, often including a stout or porter, together with a selection of real ciders.
“The club holds regular beer festivals, normally twice a year.
“The function room is regularly used by several local groups and there is regular live music. CAMRA members are welcome as visitors to the club on production of a current CAMRA membership card.”
