An “inspiring” Lewisham nursery “at the heart of the local community” has been rated as outstanding by Ofsted.
Indo-Chinese Little Rainbow Day Nursery, based in Clyde Street, was last inspected on June 28, 2024.
The report was then published on July 5.
The nursery was rated as outstanding in all areas: Leadership and management, behaviour and attitudes, personal development and quality of education.
The curriculum is described by inspectors as “extremely ambitious” and is based on staff’s “well-informed understanding of individual children”.
Ofsted reported that children hear both English and Mandarin at this bilingual nursery spoken equally.
Inspectors said: “Learning is truly alive and children's awe and wonder are ignited by the staff's careful planning.”
It was found that children visit the local community to learn about where they live and the world around them.
Children “excitedly” told inspectors about what they saw on their community walk.
At this nursery, children were reported to be “confident and curious” learners with “remarkably high levels of engagement” in their learning.
Ofsted reported that they show “resilience and perseverance” when doing activities.
Children were found to have a lot of confidence in approaching other children to join in what they are doing.
Staff showed inspectors that they work together to implement “predictable” routines, taking a “consistent and positive” approach to managing behaviour.
Managers were found to have an “exceptional focus” on the wellbeing of staff through supporting, mentoring and valuing them.
Staff are described by Ofsted as being “extremely knowledgeable and passionate” as well as “dedicated and happy”.
They are trained to meet the specific needs of children in the nursery.
There is a “strong team spirit”, Ofsted reported, with enthusiasm that leads to a “highly motivating environment” for the children at Indo-Chinese Little Rainbow Day Nursery.
Inspectors reported that children with special education needs and/or disabilities (SEND) were “very well supported” at this nursery.
They added that staff engage “extremely well” with parents to make sure children make “substantial progress” from their starting points.
