A 14-year-old girl has been left "terrified" after her parents' home in Sidcup was broken into, with the burglar allegedly closing her into her bedroom as they proceeded to steal belongings from inside the home.

The girl’s family home on Burnt Oak Lane was broken into at around 10am on Tuesday, July 23, while her dad was at work and mum was dropping her son to nursery and out shopping.

The dad – who wishes to remain anonymous – told the News Shopper that the suspect smashed through the porch window to gain access to the property.

He told the News Shopper: “He made his way upstairs and rummaged through everything in our bedroom – he took all my wife’s jewellery in the house, my wife’s engagement ring, her Rolex, costume jewellery and my son’s bangles he received when he was born.

“All my wife has left are the earrings she’s currently wearing.”

After a while of being in the house and clearing the bedroom, his daughter woke up to a noise and was allegedly confronted by a person with a hammer shouting at her and closing her into her bedroom.

He said: “My daughter thought she [her mum] came home from work, and she opened the door to see.

“They told her to shut her f***ing mouth, and she threw herself onto the bed and under the covers.

“Then she called me and said there was someone in the house, and she thought she was going to be killed."

Shortly after, his partner dashed home without finishing her shopping, and her dad called the neighbour asking for him to go and help her.

The suspect then left the house and police shortly arrived on scene.

In response to the incident, a spokesperson for the Metropolitan Police told the News Shopper that “everyone in London has the right to feel safe in their own home” and it recognise that this was a “terrifying incident” for the victim in this case.

The dad told the News Shopper he was disappointed with the police response, having called them several times after the incident.

He confirmed that police visited his home on Friday (August 2) with new CCTV images.

A spokesperson for the Metropolitan Police said the investigation is “ongoing” and officers will contact the victims to provide an update on enquiries carried out so far.

The spokesperson added: “Officers attended the house that same evening and took an initial statement from the victims.

“CCTV was also gathered and examined, and house to house enquiries were carried out.”

“The investigation is ongoing, and officers will contact the victims to provide an update on enquiries carried out so far.”

The dad said the incident has left a “scar” with his daughter, and if it wasn’t for her being home, the suspect could have potentially cleaned out the house.

He added: “My partner isn’t sleeping.

“It’s not been nice; my daughter is worried to come back to the house.

“We’ve tried to reassure her, she’s such a bubbly character usually but she’s not herself, which is expected.”
