The number of complaints about dog poo not being picked up in Bexley has been revealed.

Vitasure has shared the data and shared that from 2023 to 2024, there were 277 complaints of dog poo in public areas.

This is an increase from 2022 to 2023 when there were 254 complaints of dog poo in Bexley’s public spaces.

There is no data available to show how many complaints were made about dog poo on private properties in Bexley.

Vitasure’s data has also revealed that there are 930 dog waste bins in Bexley.

Bexley Council plan to increase the number of dog bins to 1,160 by 2025.

In the UK, it is illegal not to pick up after your dog poos out and about.

Anyone who fails to clean up after their dog can be issued with a fine of up to £100.

If someone’s case goes to court, it could then cost them £1,000.

UK law states that being unaware your dog has fouled or not having something suitable with you to pick it up is not a valid excuse.

Out of all the south east London boroughs, Lewisham was revealed to have had the highest number of reported dog poo sightings with a whopping 1200 – an increase of 370 from the previous year's figure of 830.

This was followed by Southwark with a much lower 752 dog poo sightings reported during the same year.

Vitasure data shows that Greenwich has the least number of complaints, with just 18 made between 2023 and 2024.

Research conducted by Vitasure revealed that Google searches for “reporting dog fouling” have increased by 140 percent within the last 90 days.

Further findings revealed that 63,000 complaints of dog fouling had been reported across the UK in just a 12-month period - up from just over 56,000 the year before.

The London borough with the highest number of dog poo complaints between 2023 and 2024 was Camden, which ranked in second place in the UK with 4,419 reports of dog fouling.
