London has brought up a lot of A-listers from powerhouse singer Adele, football legend David Beckham, acclaimed actress Gemma Chan and even Oscar winner Gary Oldman.

Oldman is known for his London accent, being born in New Cross and spending much of his youth in the Deptford area, despite spending time over the pond, he's never lost his native sound.

Before starring in the likes of Bram Stoker's Dracula, The Fifth Element, and Christopher Nolan's Batman series and winning the Oscar for his role as Sir Winston Churchill in the Darkest Hour, Oldman learnt his impressive acting skills for a local college.

During the late 1970s, Gary Oldman attended Rose Bruford College in Sidcup, which specialises in performing arts.

On its website, the local college shares that it "aims to inspire, excite and train creative artists and practitioners who use reflective practice and research to become independent thinkers and fulfilled and successful working professionals."

The young Oldman, who studied Acting at Rose Bruford College, graduated in 1979 and went on to become a a member of the Royal Shakespeare Company until the late 1980s.

In 1986, Oldman gained attention for his role as Sid Vicious in the acclaimed film, Sid and Nancy along with playing Joe Orton in Prick Up Your Ears in 1987.

He later went on to star as Rosencrantz in Rosencrantz & Guildenstern Are Dead in 1990 before catching the eyes of the world for his role as Irish American gangster Jackie in State of Grace in the same year.

Throughout the 1990s Oldman gained mass fame for his often villainous roles starring as Count Dracula in Bram Stoker’s Dracula (1992), Zorg in The Fifth Element (1997) and Ivan Korshunov in Air Force One (1997).

The London-born actor later went on to star in global hits including the Harry Potter series as Sirius Black and James Gordon in The Dark Knight Trilogy.

Back in 2019, Oldman returned to Rose Bruford College for a special conversation in front of students with Douglas Urbanski.

During the conversation, Oldman shared what his experience at Rose Bruford College was like explaining: "I have to say I wasn't a start you know pupil here" adding that he would often get the smaller roles.
