A woman was left "angry, upset, and distressed" after a crash in Dartford that led to the death of eight geese.

Kent Police was called at 5.36pm on Sunday (July 21), after eight geese were found dead in Anchor Boulevard.

On Thursday, July 25, officers arrested a 19-year-old man from Dartford on suspicion of animal cruelty and driving without a licence or insurance.

He has since been released on bail until Friday, October 25.

Carly Ahlen, founder of Gabo Wildlife across Kent, said she was working at her bird station when she got the call about the incident.

She told the News Shopper: "I dropped everything, jumped into my car and went to the scene - I couldn't believe what was in front of me.

"I was really distressed when I saw them - there was nothing I could do for them. 

"I felt really bad that the geese suffered so much, I was angry and upset."

Sergeant Ross Haybourne said: "This was a distressing incident which has caused considerable concern in the local community.

"We will always investigate reports where wildlife may have been harmed deliberately and I would urge anyone who has information that may assist our enquiries to contact us."

A spokesperson for Kent Police said: "A man has been arrested by officers investigating a report of a collision that led to the death of eight geese in Dartford.

"Kent Police was called at 5.36pm on Sunday 21 July 2024, after the birds were found deceased in Anchor Boulevard, Dartford.

"Rural Task Force officers started an investigation and, on Thursday 25 July 2024, officers arrested a 19-year-old man from Dartford on suspicion of animal cruelty and driving without a licence or insurance.

"He has since been released on bail until Friday, October 25.
