New data has revealed the number of dog fouling complaints in each south east London borough – and Lewisham had the highest number.

A recent survey from Vitasure across 271 areas of the UK revealed that 55 per cent of people have witnessed dog poo on their local streets.

In an FOI submitted to local authorities, Vitasure asked councils to reveal how many dog poo complaints had been received in the 12 month period between 2023 and 2024.

According to data, across four of south east London’s boroughs who reported on the number of dog fouling cases (with Bromley being the only borough who did not provide data), 2,249 cases of dog fouling were reported between 2023 and 2024.

Out of all the south east London boroughs, Lewisham was revealed to have had the highest number of reported dog poo sightings with a whopping 1200 – an increase of 370 from the previous year's figure of 830.

This was followed by Southwark with a much lower 752 dog poo sightings reported during the same year.

Between the two-year period from 2022 to 2024, Lewisham received a total of 2,030 complaints across the borough.

Research conducted by Vitasure revealed that Google searches for “reporting dog fouling” have increased by 140 percent within the last 90 days.

Further findings revealed that 63,000 complaints of dog fouling had been reported across the UK in just a 12-month period - up from just over 56,000 the year before.

The London borough with the highest number of dog poo complaints between 2023 and 2024 was Camden, which ranked in second place in the UK with 4,419 reports of dog fouling.
