A patrol base in Greenwich has been redeveloped by police with the goal to reduce response times and make the borough safer.

The site at Warspite Road has previously only been used by neighbourhood police.

This meant that response teams were split between bases at Bexley and Lewisham, which is more than a ten minute drive away.

Police have said that as part of an “intelligence-lead policing plan”, response officers will be stationed closer to these areas that “we know need our help”.

Local communities have been positive to police about the new patrol base as it cuts journey times for police responding to emergency incidents.

A spokesperson for the Metropolitan Police said: “A patrol base in Greenwich which has only been used by neighbourhood police, has been redeveloped to house response officers, ensuring we respond to incidents in the area quicker than ever.

“Up until now, the site at Warspite Road has housed Safer Transport and Neighbourhood Policing Teams, whilst Met response officers have been split between bases at Bexley and Lewisham, more than a ten minute drive away.

“But now, as part of an intelligence-lead policing plan, response offices will be stationed closer to the areas we know need our help, ensuring communities within Greenwich receive the rapid response they require.

“The local communities have spoken positively to officers about the new base patrol base, which will cut journey times for police responding to incidents, and help officers make a difference to keeping Greenwich a safer place to live.”
