A 15-year-old boy has been shot in south east London.

London Ambulance Service (LAS) called the police at 11.12pm on July 15 to report the incident.

Police, LAS, and London’s Air Ambulance rushed to the scene on Summer Road, Southwark.

They found the boy with gunshot wounds.

Officers have described it as “sheer luck that this is not a murder investigation”.

He was taken to a hospital in south London and his injuries have been confirmed as not life-threatening.

Detectives from Trident are leading the investigation and are working with the Central South Command Unit, which covers Southwark.

No one has been arrested.

A crime scene was set up and cordoned off, but it has since been cleared.

Police are asking anyone with information or footage of the incident to call 101 or post on X @MetCC using the reference number CAD 9057/15Jul.

For those who want to stay anonymous, they can call Crimestoppers at 0800 555 111.

Detective Inspector Ray Sekalongo, from the Met’s Specialist Crime Command, said: “It is sheer luck that this is not a murder investigation and I am very keen to hear from anyone who has information or footage relating to this incident.

“Removing guns from our streets is a priority for the Met. The injuries caused by guns are often devastating and the effects of being a victim of gun crime linger far beyond the healing of wounds.

“This was an attempt on the life of a 15-year-old boy and I know that there are people who can name the person responsible. Please help us remove guns from your streets by sharing what you know.”
