A south east London museum and a farm shop are among the 105 businesses in the running to win a national award.
Muddy Stilettos have announced the UK finalists for the National Muddy Awards, bringing together businesses across a range of sectors from hospitality to the arts in 21 categories.
This year, seven businesses across London were named as finalists, with two among them from south east London – The Horniman Museum in Forest Hill and Laura’s Larder in Petts Wood.
The winners for the awards will be crowned later today (July 11), with one finalist from every category named as the winner.
Here’s what you need to know about the finalists:
Horniman Museum and Garden, Forest Hill
The Horniman Museum, located in Lewisham’s Forest Hill, was shortlisted for the award of ‘Family Attraction’, alongside four other venues including Discovery Land at Priory Farm in Surrey.
The building first opened in 1901 and features 3 floors with exhibits ranging from natural history to artefacts from around the world.
Along with the free exhibits, there’s also an Aquarium to explore, with 15 exhibits featuring fish from around the world, as well as the Butterfly House with hundreds of butterflies to see close up, with tickets priced at £9 for adults and £6 for children.
There’s also a 16-acre garden to explore offering views of the London skyline, along with landscaped gardens, a music area and plenty of Victorian architecture to see.
Laura’s Larder, Petts Wood
Laura’s Larder was shortlisted for the category of ‘Farmshop or Deli’, along with four other businesses including The De Beauvoir Deli in Hackney.
The shop sells a range of specialist produce from cheeses to deli meats along with eco-friendly refills and hampers.
You can also eat here and order things like sandwiches, lunch and afternoon tea, if you fancy something on the go or want to take a picnic on a day out to the countryside.
