Drivers are being warned to plan ahead as parts of the A2 in Kent are set to be closed for six days this month.
National Highways is set to carry out repairs and maintenance work on the Pepper Hill bridge on the A2 near Northfleet over the next two months.
The works are being carried out to improve and maintain the safety of the bridge’s structure, which includes expanding joints and waterproofing the bridge.
The works will impact drivers commuting via the A2 for a number of days in July and August, with the first set of closures set for July 22.
As a result, the bridge will be closed overnight between 8pm and 6am on a number of dates in July and August.
When are the closures?
Overnight closures from 8pm until 6am Monday
- July 22 for four nights
- Monday August 5 for five nights
- Monday August 12 for five nights
There will also be an extended full closure from 8pm Friday July 26 to 6am Wednesday July 31. During this time, the coast bound entry and exit slip roads at Pepper Hill will also be closed from 8pm to 6am on Friday July 26 and Monday July 29.
What does this mean for drivers?
National Highways has advised drivers that there will be a series of diversions during the closure of the bridge over the next two months.
Here are the diversions:
South bound over Hall Road Bridge:
Drivers heading south over the bridge (Hall Road) will be diverted down the A2 coast bound carriageway to turn around at the next junction and exit at Pepper Hill junction (Hall Road).
North bound over Hall Road Bridge:
Drivers heading north over the bridge (Hall Road) will be diverted up the A2 London bound carriageway to turn around at the next junction and exit at Pepper Hill junction (Hall Road).
Coast bound entry and exit slip road closures:
Drivers wanting to use the exit slip road will be diverted down to the next junction of the A2 then onto Wrotham Road, Coldharbour Road and Hall Road.
