With a majority vote, the Labour Party has gained the constituency of Bexleyheath and Crayford this year after Daniel Francis was named as the new MP.

Daniel Francis won at last night’s count with a majority of 2,114 votes.

The success will see Mr Francis starting his new career as an MP after numerous years of serving as the Leader of Bexley’s Labour Group of Councillors from 2017-2021, and is the Shadow Cabinet Member for Finance and Corporate Services.

This year, the Labour Party won a 36.2 percent share of the vote in the constituency, which was an increase by 7.2 percent since 2019.

By contrast, the Conservative Party won 31.3 percent of the share of the vote, a decrease by 29.5 percent from 2019 during the previous elections.

In response to his victory Mr Francis said that he was “honoured” and added that his constituents needed their faith restored in politics.

In a statement on X, the newly named MP wrote: “It is an honour to have been elected as the Labour Member of Parliament for Bexleyheath and Crayford.

“I've heard clearly that my constituents need their faith in politics restored. I'll be getting to work to deliver the change people across Bexleyheath & Crayford have voted for.”
