A person was taken to a major trauma centre hospital after a stabbing in broad daylight in Woolwich.

Police and ambulance crews called to the scene in Hare Street in Woolwich at around 3pm yesterday.

One person was treated at the scene before being taken to a major trauma centre.  

One man was arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm.

Several resources were despatched to the scene including ambulance crews, paramedics in fast response cars, and an incident response officer.

London’s Air Ambulance also attended the scene.

Police believe the male was attacked on Barnard Place and a crime scene currently remains in place.

A spokesperson for London Ambulance Service said: “We were called at 2.54pm on Wednesday 3 July to reports of a stabbing in Hare Street, Woolwich.

“We sent resources to the scene, including ambulance crews, paramedics in fast response cars, an incident response officer and London’s Air Ambulance.

“The first of our crews arrived on scene in five minutes.

“We treated one person at the scene, before taking him to a London major trauma centre.”

A spokesperson for Metropolitan Police said: “Police were called by the London Ambulance Service shortly before 15:00hrs on Wednesday, 3 July to reports of a male stabbed on Powis Street, SE18.

“Officers and London’s Air Ambulance attended. The man, who is believed to be aged in his 20s, was taken to hospital for treatment. His injury is not believed to be life-threatening.

“At this stage it is believed that he was attacked on Barnard Place.

“A man has been arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm.

“A crime scene is in place.

“Anyone with information is asked to call police via 101 quoting reference CAD 4601/03Jul.”
