The company owning a significant portion of land for the multi-billion-pound London Resort project is up for sale, sparking mixed reactions from people across south east London regarding the once-anticipated theme park.

Swanscombe Development LLP holds around 372 acres of the peninsula and 39 acres of Manor Way Business Park and had granted an option to the London Resort team to purchase the land, but this expired in December 2022 and was not renewed.

London Resort Company Holdings (LRCH) invested over £4 million in the option, which was non-refundable.

Initially introduced as London Paramount Park in 2012, the park plans have stalled.

Swanscombe Development LLP, a joint venture between Aggregate Industries and Anglo-American International Holdings, is now for sale, with Savills managing the sale, with offers accepted until July 26.

Some readers say it’s “great news” that it’s up for sale, while others say the area is an “absolute dump” and is centred around gridlock roads.

Dani Price expressed scepticism, saying, “20+ years we’ve heard the same story.”

Lynn Jones criticised the location, noting, “Nobody could have got near the place with the gridlocked roads.”

Lou Walker held out hope, commenting, “Please let Disney buy it.”

Paul Wickenden had a different perspective, suggesting, “Leave it as it is - It's a great dog walk.”

Neil Punt just wants to see progress, stating, “As long as they do something with the place it’s an absolute dump.”

Natalie West doubted the suitability of the UK climate for such a park, saying, “Huge theme parks like this are really for countries with better weather. We wouldn't have been able to enjoy it for most of the year anyway due to the cold or rain.”

Sue Griffiths speculated on future developments, adding, “The traffic would not have managed it anyway, but now more houses I suppose.”

Steve Brown simply remarked, “Great news.”

Stuart Dixon pointed out a misconception, stating, “Amazing. It's not actually a theme park.”

Paul Piper Dee raised concerns about infrastructure, noting, “Probably don’t even have plans to fix the road to get there.”

Tony Osborne Jnr echoed traffic worries, saying, “Wow if that went ahead the traffic would be gridlock, the tunnel would be at a standstill. It’s the wrong place for that.”
