London Fire Brigade and the Metropolitan Police are investigating after a man died in a Welling house fire.
Emergency services were called to Kent Avenue yesterday (Monday, June 24) at 6.15pm.
Four fire engines and around 20 firefighters were sent to the blaze as well as police and ambulance services.
A man was rescued from the building but died at the scene.
A small part of a loft conversion in the two-storey, mid-terraced house was destroyed.
The fire was extinguished by 7.26pm and road closures in the area remain in place.
A spokesperson for London Fire Brigade said: “Four fire engines and around 25 firefighters have been called to a fire at a house on Kent Avenue in Welling.
“A small part of a loft conversion in the two storey mid terraced house was destroyed by fire.
“Sadly one man died at the scene.
“The Brigade was called at 1750 and the incident was over by 1926. Fire crews from Eltham, Sidcup and Bexley fire stations were in attendance.
“The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Met police and the Brigade.”
A London Ambulance Service spokesperson said: “We were called at 6.24pm on Monday 24 June to reports of a fire in Kent Avenue, Welling.
“We sent resources to the scene, including ambulance crews, members of our Hazardous Area Response Team, paramedics in fast response cars, an incident response officer and London’s Air Ambulance.
“Sadly, despite the efforts of our crews, a man died at the scene.”
A spokesperson for the Metropolitan Police said: “Police were called at about 18:15hrs on Monday, 24 June to reports of a fire at a house on Kent Avenue in Welling.
“Officers, the London Ambulance Service and London Fire Brigade attended.
“A man was rescued from the building.
“Despite the efforts of emergency services, sadly he died at the scene.
“An investigation into the cause of the fire is ongoing.
“Road closures are in place.”
