A ‘reformed offender’ who lectured kids on how to turn their backs on crime has been jailed for rape.
Nadeem Afzal was jailed for various crimes including violence and drug importation in the 1990s and early 2000s.
But the 52-year-old hadn’t been in trouble since 2006 and described himself as a “reformed offender”.
A court heard how he had led a “socially positive life” including explaining to young people who are involved in crime how they can turn their lives around.
However, Afzal was arrested in September last year after he was accused of raping a woman twice.
Lewisham Park in Hither Green, denied the charges but was convicted following a trial at Woolwich Crown Court.
Afzal, ofThe jury were played disturbing audio recordings of Afzal threatening to kill the woman.
On Wednesday (June 19) Afzal was jailed for 12 years.
