The Orchard Theatre in Dartford has provided an update on its beloved venue which closed temporarily last year.

The theatre initially closed in September 2023 due to concerns about RAAC concrete in the roof.

In response, Dartford Borough Council (DBC) and Trafalgar Theatres collaborated to establish an innovative temporary venue in Dartford, named The Orchard West.

The Orchard West, with a capacity of 1,091, has hosted many West End productions and local theatre performances since its opening.

Although the RAAC roof replacement is “progressing well,” a spokesperson for The Orchard Theatre announced that the venue’s reopening for shows will be delayed until early 2025.

This postponement is due to the ongoing reinstatement of technical equipment and additional renovations aimed at enhancing the audience experience.

“Some upcoming shows will transfer to Orchard West, while others may need to be rescheduled or cancelled,” the spokesperson said.

Ticket holders should wait to be contacted by the venue or their original point of purchase once decisions are made.

“There is no need for customers to contact the box office at this stage; we will be in touch,” the spokesperson added.

Seating arrangement at The Orchard West includes front-row, flat floor seats and a raised platform, offering “excellent” views of the stage.

It also provides comfortable seating for all theatregoers and facilities for those guests with disability and accessibility requirements.

Shows scheduled at The Orchard Theatre in early 2025 include the Robin Hood pantomime, Jimmy Carr’s comedy show and The Best of Frankie Valli, starring Peter Andre.
