A roast dinner isn't just food; it's a full-blown adventure, especially when Dad's involved.
It's like a culinary family reunion, where warmth and connection reign supreme at the dinner table.
Picture this: succulent meat, crispy roast potatoes, and gravy so good it could make a grown man cry tears of joy.
It's a taste of home, a journey down memory lane filled with nostalgia and comfort.
And what better way to celebrate Father's Day than by indulging in these culinary delights?
We've scouted out seven restaurants in South London that serve up roast dinners fit for a king—or at least a dad.
The Camberwell Arms in Camberwell
The Camberwell Arms elevates the Sunday roast with unique starters like scotch bonnet on toast and celeriac fritters.
Choose from five roasts (chicken, pork belly, lamb, lamb steak, or beef) served for two, plus occasional specials like pie or seasonal game.
Desserts include ice creams, sorbets, and cheeses. The pub's 1940s brasserie-style decor—pastel walls, bare tables, and vintage furniture—pairs well with friendly service, daily guest ales, and a reasonably priced wine list.
The Duke of Greenwich in Greenwich
This newly renovated pub offers a brand new Sunday Roast menu, which features meats sourced exclusively from Lyon’s Hill in Dorset and fresh fish from James Knight of Mayfair, straight from the waters of Cornwall.
Complemented by farm-fresh vegetables from Shrub Provisions, each roast is served with family-style sides.
The Duke of Greenwich, in a quiet residential area off the bustling Trafalgar Road, invites people to unwind in its L-shaped bar and a separate dining area with an open-view kitchen.
The Canton Arms in Stockwell
Hearty British dishes shine at The Canton Arms.
Enjoy rare roast Dexter beef with carrots, roast potatoes, and watercress, or share the seven-hour-cooked saltmarsh lamb shoulder with friends.
This dish, served with potato and olive oil gratin, feeds up to five but sells out quickly. Save room for apple and maple syrup pudding with custard.
The pub is popular and doesn't take reservations, so arrive early.
Hawksmoor in Southwark
Hawksmoor was rated 9th on the Times Best Sunday Roast list, making it the third highest-ranked London restaurant.
With eight locations across London, including one in Borough, Hawksmoor's roast menu includes dishes like slow roast rump with dripping roast potatoes, vegetables, and Yorkshire pudding.
Cafe Van Gogh in Brixton
Brixton's Cafe Van Gogh is the only all-vegan entry on the list.
This café manages to capture the classic flavours of a roast dinner using only plant-based ingredients, with prices ranging from £16 to £17.
Wellington, ragu and pie replace the meat in this Brixton roast.
The Imperial Arms in Chislehurst
The Imperial Arms, known for its "out of this world" roasts, serves up fresh, hot Sunday dinners to devoted patrons.
Exclusively available on Sundays, the menu features a wide selection, including chicken with homemade stuffing, roast lamb, beef, and a vegetarian option.
Each roast is accompanied by all the trimmings you could ask for.
The Harwood Arms in Fulham
This fantastic gastropub is so popular that reservations for Sunday lunch often require a month-long wait.
With sharing roasts like slow-cooked deer and Cumbrian pork loin and jowl, it’s no wonder why prices are a little more on the expensive side.
The menu also offers starters such as venison pâté en croûte and desserts like mandarin trifle.
