A road near Orpington Station will remain closed in both directions until this weekend as part of "urgent" gas repairs.

Tubbenden Lane has been shut both ways due to gas main work between Ridgeway Crescent Gardens and A232 Station Road.

The closure will stay in place until Sunday, June 16, at the latest.

Dan Brown, spokesperson for gas company SGN, said: "Our engineers have been carrying out urgent gas network repairs along Tubbenden Lane between its junctions with A232 Station Road and Ridgeway Crescent.

"We’ve repaired the affected pipe and we’re now working to restore the road surface around our site."

He added: "The road was closed to motorists to ensure everyone’s safety while we made the required repairs.

"It will be safe to reopen once our resurfacing work is complete."

Dan Brown explained that this resurfacing process could take up to five days to complete, and thanked road users and residents for their "patience and understanding" while the work is finished.

Mr Brown said: "We’d like to thank road users and residents for their patience and understanding while we complete this essential work to maintain a safe and reliable supply of gas to nearby homes and businesses."

This comes as Orpington High Street is also closed until later this week.

The High Street has been shut since June 3 for the installation of new drainage, and will remain closed until at least Friday, June 14.

Traffic is being rerouted via Spur Road and Court Road in both directions.
