A woman in Bromley says she had no choice but to move out of her apartment building due to “severe muscle damage” which she says was caused by frequently having to walk up the stairs when the lifts were out of order.

Hawksworth House, located on Tetty Way in Bromley, has been the subject of complaints due to ongoing issues, including leaking ceilings, dumped rubbish, and frequently broken lifts.

Currently, the lifts are reported to be working at Hawksworth House, however one resident says that they have “never worked properly”.

One woman, who wishes to remain anonymous, moved into Hawksworth House in January 2023 but decided to leave just 16 months later because of the persistent lift problems.

She says the lifts stopped working in February 2024, forcing her to carry all her bags to the second floor, with the exertion causing "severe muscle damage in her back".

She told the News Shopper: “At one point I couldn't climb the stair case at all.

“I had to visit A&E - even for that I had to go down the staircase and climb back.

“I ordered office furniture to help ease the pain and unfortunately, I ended up carrying the furniture of 35 kgs by stair case.

“This worsened my pain, and I went to A&E for the second time (the dealer said he would not deliver at room of my choice as lift wasn't working).”

The woman also claims she had several issues with the flat itself, including problems with the boiler, dishwasher, and then the washing machine, all of which stopped working “one by one”.

She added: “I get things wear out with usage, but I had to get it all replaced.

“The taps weren’t working either and I was having cold water - this took three days to get fixed.

“I was kind of stressed, we were always expecting things to happen and break down.

“On the day I was moving out there was a leak in the bathroom and there was a multitude of issues.

“It was not a peaceful living area at all.”

Hawksworth House is reported to be under the care of Vision Homes, which some residents also know as ‘Ivy Tree Management’.

The News Shopper reached out to management at Vision Homes/Ivy Tree but did not receive a response.

Tony Aydiner bought his three bedroom flat on the sixth floor in Hawksworth House in 2008, and has also expressed his frustration with the management of the building.

Despite the lifts currently working at Hawksworth House, Tony claims that they have “never worked properly” and often break down “every week”.

He told the News Shopper: “We wouldn’t mind so much if we had communication about this, but there is not.

“The lift engineers told me we need a new lift; the property management company won't provide that.

“Instead, they provide a temporary fix which only lasts a few days at a time before it breaks again.”

Tony claims that on top of the lifts breaking down, Hawksworth House has been faced with leaks, no running water, and no cleaning of communal areas.

Pictures sent in to the News Shopper show dead pigeons on the floor in the downstairs car park, along with abandoned white goods and leaks of waste water which reportedly cover the upper car park floor.
