Think Tulum and Tokyo mixed with London’s fun, vibey and upmarket nightlife, and you’ll get the new Los Mochis London City.
The flagship rooftop restaurant opened just recently in April, and it’s already one of hottest places to go, with atmosphere, good food, good drinks and a party.
Founded by Markus Thesleff, Los Mochis London City brings the pan-pacific pairing of Mexican and Japanese cuisine from Notting Hill to Liverpool Street.
Having been to the Notting Hill restaurant a while ago which I absolutely loved, I had really high hopes of what the new Los Mochis was going to be like.
Much to my delight, it was bigger and better, and spanned 14,000 square feet across the 9th floor rooftop of 100 Liverpool Street’s Broadgate.
There is a stunning restaurant, Agaveria bar and lounge, two private dining rooms and a 3,000 square foot outdoor terrace with panoramic city views.
The décor makes you feel like you’ve been transported to another world and Los Mochis Executive Chef, Leonard Tanyag, has created a highly technical menu that is completely tree nut and gluten free, where all vegetarian dishes are also vegan by design.
The restaurant has space for 150 diners and has a sushi bar and robata grill with 15 different Kushiyaki (grilled skewers) charred over open fire.
There are resident DJs, and the main bar has one of the largest selections of fine and rare tequilas and mezcals in Europe.
My boyfriend and I went on a Thursday evening and it was buzzing, busy and made for the perfect Thursday-is-the-new-Friday weekend treat.
We went for the tasting menu (priced at £95pp), which gives you a bit of everything to taste.
All the dishes have both a Japanese and Mexican twist to them, and the combination is done to perfection by Los Mochis.
We had Guacamole, crispy rice (my boyfriend had the duck it comes with and the restaurant kindly changed it to salmon for me), salmon tiradito and seabass ceviche at first.
As a fussy eater, I don’t often think so, but every single dish is delicious and has complementing cuisine-mixing flavours.
We had a miso cod stick each, which was melt-in-the-mouth divine, along with a cucumber and avocado maki and spicy yellowtail and avocado maki.
All the portion sizes are generous and the menu is the perfect amount of food to try an array of flavours.
Lastly we got tacos, chicken and steak, and the waiter kindly requested a miso black cod and vegetable taco for me as I wasn’t eating meat.
They were full of flavour and left just enough room for a panna cotta for dessert which was PURPLE, yes purple, in colour, and incredible to taste.
We enjoyed Mexican-style cocktails, and had a really fun evening in a restaurant that I’d go back to again and again.
It’s the new place to be this summer.
