A care home in Catford for adults with learning disabilities has been praised by the CQC for its "culture of improvement and inclusivity".

Care Quality Commission (CQC) inspectors rated Ringstead House in Ringstead Road, Catford, 'Good' in all areas during a recent inspection spanning October and November 2023.

Ringstead House is a residential care home that provides accommodation and personal care for up to four adults in an adapted building.

The Catford home supports to younger adults and adults with learning disabilities and autism, and there were three individuals using this service at the time of CQC inspection.

In the report published on June 3, inspectors said that residents were supported "in a safe, clean and well-furnished environment", and that care workers at the home understood the individuals' cultural needs and provided "culturally appropriate care".

The privacy and dignity of individuals were respected, with an emphasis on "choice" and "equality".

The report said: "People were supported to have maximum choice and control of their lives and staff supported them in the least restrictive way possible and in their best interests.

"The policies and systems in the service supported this practice."

Inspectors took note of the low staff turnover at Ringstead House, which they suggest ensured adults received consistent care from staff members who were familiar to them.

Commenting on the culture, inspectors found residents' quality of life "was enhanced by the service's culture of improvement and inclusivity".

However, inspectors discovered there were no Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards (DoLS) in place, a concern that was taken up with the management team on site.

Assurance was received that DoLS applications had been made to the local authority by the previous manager back in May 2023.

The CQC also assessed the documentation at the care home, including a range of policies and procedures which ensured "care, treatment and support promoted a good quality of life based on the best available evidence".

The report added: "The provider ensured care workers had appropriate training and experience to keep people safe from abuse and avoidable harm.

"People were treated with dignity and respect and were treated with compassion and kindness."

A relative told inspectors that they thought the home was well managed.

They said their family member has been there for a long time and they are "better, their diet is good and they socialise a lot" and they are "happy".
