A man was reportedly chased by a group of men from a pub before a chemical substance was sprayed in his eyes in Bromley.

The incident happened in Chatterton Road near Walpole Road at around 4.15pm yesterday (May 29).

Firefighters, police, and ambulance crews attended and a man in his 40s was found with an injury to his eye. 

He was treated at the scene before being taken to hospital where his condition was assessed as non-life threatening.

A crime scene was put in place in Chatterton Road as the incident was investigated by forensics.

The cordon has since been lifted and the incident was over for fire crews just after 5.20pm.

Two fire engines and around ten firefighters from Hornchurch and Barking Fire Station attended the scene.

No arrests have been made as police enquires continue.

A spokesperson for Metropolitan Police said: “Police were called at 16:03hrs on Wednesday, 29 May to reports of a man being chased by a group of men from a local public house in Chatterton Road, Bromley.

“Officers attended and London Ambulance Service and found a man, believed to be aged in his 40s, suffering injuries from a chemical substance which had been sprayed in his eyes.

“The man was taken to hospital for treatment; he remains there for further investigations.

“His condition is not life threatening. A crime scenes for further investigations have now been closed.

“Enquiries into the circumstances continue. Anyone with information is asked to call 101 or ‘X’ @MetCC and quote CAD5177/29May.

A spokesperson for London Fire Brigade said: “Firefighters were called to a chemical incident on Chatterton Road in Bromley. 

“Firefighters assisted London Ambulance Service and Metropolitan Police Services at the scene.

“One man suffering an eye injury was taken to hospital by London Ambulance Service.

“The Brigade was called at 1614 and the incident was over for firefighters at 1718.

“Two fire engines and around ten firefighters from Hornchurch and Barking Fire Station attended the scene.”

A spokesperson for London Ambulance Service said: “We were called at 4.13pm yesterday (29 May) to reports of an incident at the junction of Chatterton Road and Walpole Road, Bromley.

“We sent resources to the scene, including an ambulance crew, an incident response officer and members of our hazardous area response team (HART).

“Our first paramedic arrived on scene in less than four minutes.

“We treated a patient at the scene before taking them to hospital.”

“The man was taken to hospital for treatment; he remains there for further investigations.

“His condition is not life threatening. A crime scenes for further investigations have now been closed.
