A pizza restaurant has been named Greenwich's top takeaway joint by Just Eat.

The Italian eatery Pizza Base was crowned the top independent takeaway restaurant in the borough, based on data from the online food delivery company.

However, the data released by Just Eat also revealed that Greenwich has a growing preference for Japanese and African cuisine.

They named Katsu Shoku as Greenwich's 'hidden gem' takeaway - a restaurant that was popular and highly rated as soon as it arrived on the app.

Md Nasir Uddin Chy at Katsu Shoku, said: "Our chefs have many years of experience preparing Pan Asian cuisine and bringing the enjoyment of delicious Asian food to our customers - it’s great to be recognised as a hidden gem in Greenwich by Just Eat."

Analysis of takeaway trends within four London boroughs - Greenwich, Newham, Lambeth and Barking and Dagenham - revealed different eating habits among residents.

Whereas in Barking and Dagenham, East Asian cuisine was the most sought-after, in the other three boroughs - Greenwich amongst them, chicken and Chinese orders took the top spots.

Greenwich residents were identified as early birds, with the highest volume of orders being made between 6am and 11am, compared to other boroughs.
