TWO boroughs celebrated the moment when the capital officially became an Olympic host city.
The handover from Beijing to London on August 24 was marked by Greenwich Council at the O2 arena and by Lewisham Council at Cornmill Gardens in Lewisham.
At the O2, an Olympic flag was unfurled confirming Greenwich as a host borough for the 2012 games.
A giant screen showed the moment when the Olympic flag was handed to Mayor of London Boris Johnson in Beijing.
Performers including a jazz and samba band accompanied by carnival dancers entertained the crowds, while Charlton Athletic football club ran a shooting competition.
Councillor John Fahy said: "Hosting the Games is a fantastic opportunity for everyone in Greenwich to get involved in one way or another. Let's go for it."
Lewisham's event included flags designed by residents and children.
Mayor of Lewisham Sir Steve Bullock and Lewisham Olympic hopeful, disabled swimmer Rebecca Harding, unfurled the borough's handover flag.
