London Ambulance Service has issued a statement after a stabbing in Thamesmead.

A 17-year-old boy was found injured in Southmere Drive at around 12.35pm yesterday (March 13).

Officers, London Ambulance Service, and an air ambulance were called to the scene.

An ambulance crew, a paramedic in a fast response car, and an incident response officer also attended.

The boy was taken to hospital for treatment where his injuries were assessed as non-life threatening.

No arrests have been made following the incident.

Five minutes before the stabbing, at 12.30pm, a man was found uninjured after being attacked by a group of men with baseball bats in Seacourt Road.

As a result, a section 60 order was put into place in certain areas of Thamesmead, Erith, and Abbey Wood.

This means police can stop and search anyone within the area without needing to have reasonable grounds.

It has been in place since 1.30pm yesterday (March 13) and will last until 12pm today (March 14).

A spokesperson for London Ambulance Service said: “We were called at 12:35 this afternoon (March 13) to reports of an incident at Cygnet Square, SE2.

“We dispatched resources to the scene, including an ambulance crew, a paramedic in a fast response car, and an incident response officer. We also dispatched a trauma team from London’s Air Ambulance.

“We treated a patient at the scene before taking them to a major trauma centre.”

A spokesperson for Metropolitan Police said: “Police were called to Seacourt Road, Thamesmead, 12.32hrs on Wednesday, 13 March to reports of a man being attacked by a group of men with baseball bats.

“A man was found uninjured.

“Five minutes later, officers were called to Southmere Drive, SE2, by London Ambulance Service (LAS) to reports of a stabbing.

“Officers attended. A 17-year-old boy was found with stab wounds. He has been taken to hospital. His injuries have been assessed as non life-threatening.

“A crime scene has been put in place. There have been no arrests. Enquiries continue.

“A Section 60 order has been put in place in the Thamesmead area until 04.30hrs on 14 March.”
