AT LAST month's meeting Diane Rimel gave an illustrated talk on the Isle of Dogs, a part of London which nestles in the large loop of the River Thames opposite Greenwich.
In the 19th Century Charles Dickens described it as marshy with little industry but heavy industry developed.
Destroyers, torpedo boats and steamships such as the Great Eastern, known for cable laying from Europe to America, were built.
