AN ANNUAL summer Festival of Football organised by Bexley junior football club the Foots Cray Lions attracted more than 1,100 young players this year.

In front of 2,000 spectators, youngsters aged from under six to 15, fought it out on the football field.

The event was held at Bexley Grammar School, Danson Lane, Welling, because the club, which has more than 300 members, currently has no home ground.

This is its fifth season away from its headquarters in Baugh Road, Foots Cray, after Bexley Council identified contamination problems with the ground.

And this year the festival fielded 114 teams.

The under-6 and under-7 sides played a round-robin and each player received a medal.

Boys and girls from under-8 to under-15 played in a knockout competition.

The winners were: under-8 - Cray Wanderers A (Sidcup); runners-up Beacons JFC (Eltham). Under-9 - Foots Cray Lions Yellow; runners-up Phoenix Pumas (Bexleyheath). Under-10 - St More Youth (Woolwich); runners-up Junior Reds A (Shooters Hill). Under-11 - Junior Red Knights (Shooters Hill); runners-up Sidcup Spartak. Under-13 Longwood JFC; runners-up Teviot Rangers (Woolwich). Under-14 - Kingfisher JFC; runners-up Crayford Arrows. Under-15 girls - Valley Park Rangers (Shooters Hill); runners-up Gravesham Girls.
